Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK)

  1. The first KVK was established in 1974 at Puducherry.
  2.  The number of KVKs has risen to 645 and 106 more KVKs are to be established in the newly created districts and some larger districts.
  3.  The KVK scheme is 100% financed by Govt. of India and the KVKs are sanctioned to Agricultural Universities, ICAR institutes, related Government Departments and Non Government Organizations (NGOs) working in Agriculture.


KVK System: Mandate and Activities

The mandate of KVK is Technology Assessment and Demonstration for its Application and Capacity Development.
To implement the mandate effectively, the following activities are envisaged for each KVK

1.  On-farm testing to assess the location specificity of agricultural technologies under various farming systems.

2.  Frontline demonstrations to establish production potential of technologies on the farmers’ fields.

3.  Capacity development of farmers and extension personnel to update their knowledge and skills on modern agricultural technologies.

4.  To work as Knowledge and Resource Centre of agricultural technologies for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector in improving the agricultural economy of the district.

5.  Provide farm advisories using ICT and other media means on varied subjects of interest to farmers
In addition, KVKs produce quality technological products (seed, planting material, bio-agents, livestock) and make it available to farmers, organize frontline extension activities, identify and document selected farm innovations and converge with ongoing schemes and programs within the mandate of KVK.

* Kisan Credit Card is a credit card to provide affordable credit for farmers in India.
* The Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme is a credit scheme introduced in August 1998 by Indian banks.
* This model scheme was prepared by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) on the recommendations of R.V. GUPTA committee to provide term loans and agricultural needs.
* Its objective is to meet the comprehensive credit requirements of the agriculture sector.
*Get interest at saving bank rate on credit balance in KCC account

Features and benefits
Free ATM cum debit card (State Bank Kisan Card) for all KCC borrowers
*Interest subvention @2%p.a.is available for loan amount upto Rs. 3 Lacs
*Additional interest subvention @3% p.a. for prompt repayments
*Notified crops / notified areas are covered under crop insurance for all KCC loans

Eligibility

*All farmers – individuals/Joint cultivator owners
*Minimum Age – 18 years.
*Maximum Age – 75 years.
*In case a borrower is a senior citizen (age more than 60 years),
*A co-borrower is mandatory where the co-borrower should be a legal heir

Quantum of loan
*Quantum of loan for 1st year will be assessed on the basis of Cost of cultivation
*Post-harvest expenses and farm maintenance cost
*For subsequent 5 year loan will be sanction on the basis of increase in scale of finance

*Simple interest @7% p.a will be charged for one year or upto the repayment due date, whichever is earlier.
*All the croploans up to Rs. 3 lakh are being disbursed at the interest rate of 7% p.a.
*but Govt. of India also provides interest subvention of 3% p.a. to prompt
repaying farmers
*thus making available the crop loans to them at 4% p.a.
*and if the customer has a sound track record for three years, he/she is
eligible for an increase in the credit limit.
*In case of non-repayment within the due dates interest is applied at card rate
